the cowboy that smells like heaven.

He walked in while I was folding my thousandth pair of jeans. I eye stalked him as he hovered in the men’s section.
“Go talk to him. Tell him if he buys three pairs of jeans that you’ll go out with him.” my manager laughed.
Surprisingly, my legs began walking over to him. He was tall and a cowboy. Two of my favorite things. He was built and smiled easily. Another two of my favorite things.
“Hi, can I help you find anything?” I shyly asked. Wishing I would have tried to look cute that day. My oversized hoodie, skinnies, and red Toms with green socks probably wouldn’t attract any man I thought as he turned and looked at me with his deep green eyes.
“Actually, do you know which of these are on sale?” I quickly checked and told him they weren’t.
“You know, my boss says if you buy three pairs of jeans from me I’ll go out on a date with you. So that’s kind of on sale!” I giggled, not believing that those words came out of my mouth.
The cowboy was about to answer when my co-worker came and interrupted him telling him where the fitting room was. I could have beat him with a hanger.
The cowboy emerged wearing the jeans I picked out for him. Of course, they looked great.
“Do you have jean jackets? The ones with the wool lining?” he asked me with a smile, “I ripped mine mending fences.” He added. Taunting me with the fact that he is, in fact, a real cowboy.
I helped him put it on and I secretly sniffed him. He smelled like heaven. He wasn’t sure he wanted to spend that much money, so he only purchased one pair of jeans.
If I was flirtatious I would have asked what buying only one pair of jeans, not three, meant. But I didn’t. I thanked the cowboy and watched him walk out the door.
The next day at work, while I was frantically recovering the store from the rush of German tourists, I looked over to find a familiar cowboy appeared at my side. My heart began beating rapidly and my entire body was taken over by my embarrassing shaking.
I helped him put the jacket on again.
He still smelled like heaven.
As I walked with him up to check out, I realized that I had to act quick. But I didn’t know what to do. I took my time ringing him up. Flirting with him the whole time. If I was flirtatious I would have asked him to put his email down on the list, or phone number hint hint, or I would have written my number on his sales slip, or asked what a pair of jeans and a jacket meant. But I didn’t. I’m old school and need the guy to take the lead.
So I watched the cowboy walk out again.
I pray that I see him one more time because I know that he’s something. I missed my shot. If he comes back I won’t miss it.
He’s in another one of my co-worker’s rock climbing class (he talked to him about it) and I know that he’s on student government. So I have ways to getting to the cowboy once again.
Friends, what should I do?
I’m working tonight. Hold your breath and cross your fingers for me?
