Dear Change, Courage, and John Wayne.
Anatole France said, “All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.” And it’s been on my mind.
It’s here. I’m packing up and getting ready to leave. It seems like that’s all I think about these days. The fact that Anatole said part of me has to die to make room for this new change makes me think a little. A friend of mine told me to lose myself in the movements and change. It’s how we grow. If we don’t change our circumstances we don’t grow. I know for a fact that time has changed me. From one summer to another I’ve changed into a much better person. So maybe I did ‘die’ a little to make room for someone even better.
“They must often change, who would be constant in happiness or wisdom.” ~Confucius. I think that Anatole didn’t understand that change is good. Life isn’t supposed to be this blob of clay just sitting there. Life is supposed to be lived. Living comes by taking a step into the unknown and having faith that maybe one day you’ll end up comfortable enough to jump again. Lose yourself in the moment. Become.
“What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?”- Vincent van Gogh
Being brave is hard. Bravery isn’t something that comes easy to me. But courage isn’t easy either. John Wayne once said,
”Courage is being scared to death... and saddling up anyway.”
Here I go Mr. Wayne. I’m scared to death and I’m going to drive off with my head held high. Not because I have to, but because I need to. Call it courage if you must, but I think I just found a little by being so frightened that I forget to breathe.
Let’s jump together. Immerse yourself in the completely unknown and see what happens. After all, we have John Wayne on our side.
With love,
Megan Rose.
